Award-winning Minneapolis author John Rosengren is getting set to publish his newest book, A Clean Heart.
“I’m excited to announce that Mango Press will release my debut novel, A Clean Heart, next month,” said John, who visits Cook County as often as he can, noting he was saddened by the loss of his favorite Grand Marais restaurant, The Crooked Spoon to the recent fire.
A special virtual launch party will be held Tuesday, May 19, at 7 p.m. Central Time.
As reviewed by Will McGrath, author of Everything Lost Is Found Again, Rosengren’s A Clean Heart captures, “With echoes of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Rosengren writes with great empathy for the misfits and outsiders of Six West (whose halls are stalked by the unforgettable Sister X). A Clean Heart grapples with life’s most difficult puzzles: how we navigate the tangled bonds of family, and how we save ourselves, ultimately, by becoming vulnerable. A redemptive and affecting novel.”
During the May 19 virtual launch party, John says, “I’ll spill some secrets, give away prizes, tell some stories, stage a social media contest, and answer your questions. All for free!”
Details on how to join the virtual party to follow. In the meantime, you can learn more about A Clean Heart (and even preorder copies) by going to John’s email: john@johnrosegren.net.
COVID-19 got you down?
“If you have been furloughed or laid off because of the coronavirus pandemic and would like a complimentary copy of the book, please shoot me an email with your mailing address, and I’ll send you a signed copy for no charge,” said Rosengren.
“If you live in the Twin Cities and would like a signed copy, I can offer you one out of a limited supply I’ve already received. Email me, and I’ll give instructions for payment and curbside pickup.
“I look forward to celebrating the publication of A Clean Heart with you on May 19!”
Editor’s note: John is the author of The Fight of Their Lives, which recalls the 1965 Sunday afternoon baseball game between the Giants and the Dodgers and the fight that broke out between players Juan Marichal and John Roseboro. He has also authored seven other books, including Hank Greenberg: The Hero of Heroes and Blades of Glory: The True Story of a Young Team Bred to Win, about a season spent with a high school hockey powerhouse in Minnesota, where hockey is life.
John, his wife Maria, their two children and golden retriever Honey live on Lake Harriet. John plays catcher for the Richfield Rockets in a hardball, wooden bat 35-over league. He also likes to get out for a daily long run and occasionally competes in road races.
