A bevy of Cook County non-profits received funding from Northland Foundation



Northland Foundation announced 54 grant awards across the region and Cook County certainly got its share of the $976,910 that was distributed.

I.S.D. 166 received $13,000 to expand early childhood family education programming to the west end of Cook County and Grand Portage.

Cook County Care Partners received $25,000 to support programs and services to help older adults live independently in Cook County.

Sawtooth Mountain Clinic Inc., was granted $20,000 to support access to oral health care services and education for children, youth, and older adults.

The commercial driver license training program offered by Cook County Higher Education received $25,000.

Maada’ooking grants

Sam Zimmerman, Duluth, received $2,500 to create a series of paintings celebrating Ojibwe constellations and season teachings, design and create Ojibwewowin coloring pages, and exhibit and distribute the materials. Sam does a lot of work in Cook County.

All of the grants were awarded January 1-April 30, 2023.

The Northland Foundation awarded grant funds to benefit the people and communities within its geographic service area, which includes the counties of Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis and Native nations Zagaakwaandagowininiwag (Bois Forte Band of Chippewa), Gichi Onigaming (Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa), Nagaajiwanaang (Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa), Gaazagaskwaajimekaag (Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe- District I) and Misizaaga’igani Anishinaabeg (Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe District II).
