On Monday, April 10 the Cook County Sheriff ’s Office introduced a new 911 for Kids Program at Birch Grove Elementary School during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

“This is something we’ve been wanting to do for a while to reach out to kids and help them become familiar with their local emergency responders, the services that are available and understand how 911 works,” said Darcy Ziller, dispatcher and 911 for Kids Coordinator.

Kids had the opportunity to ask questions of dispatchers and Chief Deputy Will Sandstrom about 911 and all types of emergency situations, and got to tour a squad car.

Presentations at other local schools will follow.
