This year’s Radio Waves Music Festival will feature a diverse lineup of North Shore musicians playing back to back over two days at Sweetheart’s Bluff in the Grand Marais Recreation Area. It’s the perfect setting for sharing the weekend with friends and family while enjoying a wide variety of music.
The festival will kick off Saturday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m., and will run through Sunday evening, Sept. 11 with a full lineup of North Shore musicians, including The Pete K Group, Cook County’s Most Wanted, North Shore Community Swing Band, The Curry Family Band, Bicycle Army, Unnamed Stream, Portage, Trails End Band, Bug House, KGB, Josh Von Mink, Blueberry Jaam, Zabobo, Paul Pederson, Drew Heinonen, Yvonne Mills, Critter du Jour, Amanda Hand, Al Hedstrom and Don Bauer.
This year’s lineup reflects the incredible talent and diversity of North Shore musicians. “It was really important to us to be inclusive and to build a lineup that explores the talent of the area,” says WTIP’s Music Director Cathy Quinn. The line-up offers a variety of genres, from rock to folk, jazz, swing, and country.
In addition to the diverse local lineup, the North Shore Music Association is bringing in the Minneapolis-based group The Vibro Champs to headline the event, taking the stage at 7 p.m. Saturday. “The Vibro Champs will be a great way to top off the evening,” says Kate Fitzgerald, director of the North Shore Music Association. “ They’re a high-octane country/rockabilly group who can really get the crowd grooving.”
The 2011 Radio Waves Music Festival will also offer on-site food vendors, a dance floor, and a children’s tent. Camping reservations are available at the adjacent campground by calling (218) 387- 1712.
