Dave Duede of Eagan, Minnesota, won the Tofte Trek 10K on Tuesday, July 4th, in 38:33, averaging 6:12 per mile on the hilly, somewhat swampy (in places) trails.
Not far behind was Joey Chmelik of Grand Marais. Joey crossed the line in 38:57, a 6:16 per mile pace and more than a minute faster than his previous best time here.
Other local finishers in the men’s race were Aulis Nelson, Grand Marais, who finished in 51:24; Haddon Taylor, Lutsen, ran the distance in 59:31; Eero Moody, Grand Marais, finished in 1:00:27 with his dad, Anton Moody, not far behind in 1:00:46. Myles Cook, Grand Marais, finished in 1:01:38; Chris Obrien, Grand Marais finished in 1:03:35; Mark Hennessy, Grand Marais, finished in 1:04:57; Bill Simonowicz, Grand Marais, crossed the line in 1:12:07, Michael Herman, Tofte, finished in 1:13:47; Eric Frost, Tofte, was in at 1:27:27.
Women’s race results
Maj-Lis Helmer of Duluth won the Women’s race with a time of 44:56.9. Maj-Lis averaged 7:14 per mile. Karen Gudemen of Minneapolis was second in 52:26.6, running a mile pace of 8:26.
Anna Hay, Grand Marais, was the fourth woman across the finish line with a time of 57:32, the same time given to Sierra Gaetz of Silver Bay. Rachel Andrus, Lutsen placed sixth in 57:33; Kelly Hawsen, Grand Marais, crossed the line in 1:00:49; Brianna Monson, Grand Marais, finished in 1:01:24; Lynn Wiitala crossed the line in 1:01:45; Jeanne Wright, Grand Marais, finished in 1:03:30; Solveig Vick, Tofte, ran 1:03:33; Kaylyn Dix, Grand Marais, finished in 1:03:45; Sara Taylor, Lutsen, finished in 1:05:42; Jillian Kratt-Haugen, Lutsen, finished in 1:11:40; Louise Ramberg, Grand Marais, and Ellen Callendar, Grand Marais, finished together in 1:13:20 with Elsa Garry, Grand Marais, four seconds back in 1:13:24.
Maggie Herman, Tofte, crossed the line in 1:13:45. Sophia Lindstrom, Grand Marais, finished in 1:16:20. Siena Woerheide, Lutsen ran 1:16:22; Anni Dix, Grand Marais crossed in 1:16:25. Cecelia Chmelik, Grand Marais, was in the finish chute in 1:16:42. Ezme Mundell, Lutsen finished in 1:17:53; Anne Mundell, Lutsen, finished in 1:20:59; Molly O’Neill, Lutsen, finished in 1:21:14; Jessa Frost, Tofte, ran the distance in 1:27:29; Ellie Andersen, Mound, finished in 1:27:36; Krishna Woerheide, Lutsen, finished in 1:37:13 and Crystal Christianson, Tofte, finished in 1:38:19.
Walk results
Ellen Anderson, Tofte, “walked” away from the entire field, leaving everyone in the proverbial dust. Her winning time isn’t known, but it was fast because no other racewalker was anywhere close to her.
