2021 lodging tax report



Tourism remained strong in 2021, with Cook County experiencing an increase of 23.3 percent in its lodging tax over 2020.

Lutsen-Tofte Tourism Association was exceptionally robust, taking in $1,186,324.14 in 2020 compared to $932,960.73 in 2020, or an increase of 23.3 percent when compared apples-to-apples.

The Grand Marais Tourism Association saw an increase of 36.4 percent in 2021, bringing in $425,401.43 compared to $321,068.69 taken in 2020.

Tax proceeds from the Gunflint Trail Association rose 11.6 percent over 2020, bringing in $222,332.16 compared to $190,186.07 the year before.

When added up, the three tourism associations accounted for a record $1,834,057.73, a hike of 24.5 percent over 2020, which was the previous high-water mark at $1,444,215.49.
