It was a red, white and blue clothing day for the Ekstrom brothers last week as they spent the day golfing to raise money for Folds of Honor. The brothers played 13 hours of golf on the Superior National golf course in Lutsen, raising almost $6,500 for Folds of Honor.
Brothers Heath and Drew Ekstrom were back at it again this year, spending a long day on the Superior National golf course to raise funds for Folds of Honor.
“Drew and I golfed 126 holes each, 252 golf holes total. We started at about 6:20 a.m. and stopped at 7:15 p.m. Could have tried for a few more, but were just too tired and getting sore,” said Heath Ekstrom, Superior National’s PGA Head Professional.
As of Wednesday, September 16, the brothers had raised $6,440, with more to come in from pledges and donations.
“We both played fairly well considering we didn’t take any practice swings,” Heath said. “We sometimes hit at the same time and rarely lined up putts.”
Support for the two players came from family. “We had some great helpers along the way. Drew’s kids, Kaily and Luke were with us the whole day and my son Silas rode around for a few holes,” Heath said.
Folds of Honor is often played on September 7, Patriot Golf Day, a nationwide fundraiser for the Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides scholarships for spouses and children of military members who have been disabled or killed while serving the country.
Over the past four years Drew and Heath have raised more than $25,000 for Folds of Honor. There is still time to donate this year.
Donations can be dropped off at Superior National or online at www.foldsofhonor.org/patriotgolfday/
“Then search my name, Heath Ekstrom or Superior National at Lutsen.”
“We can’t wait until next year to attempt again. Hopefully we can bring back the “Challenge Cup” where the public can play in a four-person scramble and raise money for both the Folds of Honor and the 10th Mountain Division, like we had in 2019,” said Heath.
