Based on the Minnesota State Demographic Center, Cook County’s April 1, 2018, annual population and household estimate was 5,390, slightly down from the 2017 estimate of 5,398.
Broken down by areas Grand Marais had 1,410 people with a household population estimated at 1,369, with 721 households containing an average of 1.9 people.
Lutsen Township had 436 people. There were 226 households with an average of 1.93 people living in each household.
Schroeder Township’s 2018 population was counted at 271 people living in 107 households with an average of 2.03 folks per household.
The State Demographic Center estimates 271 people living in Tofte with 152 households averaging 1.78 people per household.
Cook County unorganized territory contained the largest population with 3,056. There was an estimate of 1,461 households and an estimate of 2.09 people living in each household.
Overall, there were 2.0 persons per household in the county.
As of 2010 the state estimated Cook County’s population at 5,176.
The Minnesota State Demographer is required by law to produce annual population and household estimates for all Minnesota counties, townships and cities.
