Forest Service Opens BWCAW Quota Permits
The U.S. Forest Service opened its quota permit system for overnight paddle, hiking and motor trips, and motorized day trips for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness on May 1. Last week a small grass fire in a lawn was stopped from spreading by the Grand Marais Fire Department. Cook County Law Enforcement handled traffic on the road while the firefighters put the blaze out. An ambulance from North Shore Health was on the scene in case any medical assistance was needed.
