This bull moose is in velvet, chewing a twig. When bulls first form antlers they are covered in skin called “velvet”, which nourishes the bone as it grows. To shed the velvet, moose often rub their antlers on trees. The Algonquin word for moose was mooswa, which means “Eater of Twigs.”

Two culvert and one road project began Monday, June 28 on CSAH 12, the Gunflint Trail. Culvert replacements are scheduled at Larch Creek and Seagull Creek, with traffic rerouted to a one-lane bypass at both locations.
