Keith Aili was hot on his buddy Ryan Redington’s tail when he left the Mineral Center checkpoint on Tuesday afternoon. Aili, who had retired from mushing and sled dog racing in 2018, was talked into racing a team of dogs selected from Redington’s kennel. If the race had gone much longer, Aili might well have beaten Redington.

Finding place in Cook County

Relocating to small town America from a Caribbean island—known for sun-saturated shores, t-shirt and shorts weather, and endless tourism—isn’t a common Cook County experience. For Jason Franklyn of Saint Catherine, Jamaica, passing up an H2-B visa for work in the U.S. was foolish. He couldn’t let go of the moment. Combining summers at Bluefin Bay and winters at Lutsen Mountain, […]

It’s time for abortion clinics to provide for post-abortion complications suffered by women

I only read USA TODAY when I must stay at a hotel. Imagine my surprise when the opinion section carried an article entitled “Ex-abortionist: How I became pro-life” in their January 22, 2020 edition. This article by Dr. Kathi Aultman, an OB/ Gynecologist, is worth reading in its entirety. Even though USA TODAY published Dr. Aultman’s words, they purposely miss-titled […]

Consider your reactions to news carefully before drawing conclusions

I’ve been looking at a few articles about fake news spreading on social media platforms, Twitter, Facebook (unsurprising given that the company has decided not to fact check political advertisements) and am reminded of a Terry Pratchett line “A line can run round the world before the truth has got its boots on.” A sentiment others have iterated. Be wary, […]
