Courtesy and common sense have been forgotten

I’m ashamed of you, Fritz Sobanja, for your attitude towards residents of this county. To encourage fellow commissioners not to respond to a question posed by Garry Gamble is deplorable. And maybe the other commissioners are also to be deplored because when you instructed them not to answer Garry, they obeyed you and refused to respond to him. To call […]

Bipartisan land transfer legislation benefits county

Given the political gridlock and partisan debates in Washington, it is encouraging to see bipartisan and common sense legislation passed that will positively impact our community and district. I am referring to H.R. 2947, introduced by U.S. Representative Chip Cravaack last September 15, 2011, during the 1st Session of the 112th Congress. U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar introduced a companion bill […]

Correction:

In the June 9 article Marathon meetings for Community Center planners, Commissioner Fritz Sobanja was incorrectly quoted regarding visits to the Grand Marais swimming pool. Sobanja correctly stated that approximately 1/3 of pool users are from the city, 1/3 are from the rest of the county and 1/3 are tourists. The Cook County News-Herald apologizes for the error.

Gardening!

First, this disclaimer: Gardening is not an area of excellence for me. It hasn’t mattered if it’s been the rocky soil of Hovland or the rich farm soil in northwestern Minnesota, gardening success evades me. For many, many, many, of you, gardening is a resounding deep pleasure, looked forward to as heavy work but work worth it for produce, beauty […]

If the rain holds off, by the time you read this crews from Edwin E. Thoreson Inc. will have already begun getting the ground ready for the pouring of a cement slab for the new floor of the fire hall and community center (town hall) addition in Lutsen.
