Had enough?
Regarding the Truth-in-Taxation hearing at the Cook County courthouse on Tuesday, December 14 at 6:00 p.m.—if the proposed tax increases are okay with you, stay home. By not objecting, you give the go ahead for these increases. The school referendum isn’t reflected on this proposed tax levy. This is your opportunity to say when you’ve had enough. Tax increase due to hospital district
If you haven’t looked closely at your proposed 2011 property tax, you should. In my case the overall tax increased 15.7 percent for a non-homestead, small cabin in the woods. What is so alarming about this increase is that almost 50 percent of it is in one line item, “Special Taxing District” which was increased 134 percent from 2010 taxes. […]
Doctors, not government, should decide
The FDA recently came close to taking away hope for thousands of terminally ill women. But at the last minute, the agency announced it was postponing until December whether to revoke approval of Avastin for advanced-stage breast cancer treatment. Thisis a sign of things to come. New federal health laws give government dramatically more control over the health sector. The […]

Viking girls’ basketball outplays Albrook 69-31
One of the biggest reasons the Vikings girls’ basketball team was so successful last year was, despite a lack of height, their quickness, tenacious rebounding, tough defense and ability to score easy baskets off of takeaways made them tough to beat. Fast forward to 2010-2011 and not much has changed. The Vikes’ tallest player is 5’ 9” but the team […]
